I found this softened piece of glass bottle on the beach this week. All that’s legible is the word “RETURN.” At a time when I need to do just that – return to myself, this finding couldn’t have been more appropriate. (A message from the Universe, no doubt.) I’ve been meditating on what “return” means to me the last few days. The haiku “From Within” is my first reflection (reposting below). I’m happily using this experience as a way to get back into writing.
As with so many people, the death of Robin Williams has jarred me. Being in the level of darkness he must have felt, greatly saddens me. It’s a place I feel deserves no harsh judgement. Pain is pain and with that pain, compassion is needed.
I am grateful for his life and for the light he bestowed on the world.
Thinking of Robin Williams; of the darkest of depressions; of the ability to make others laugh; and of the light, clarity and Springtime that the actual red robin symbolizes, I feel compelled to share this haiku.
Stand up for your Self
Put to rest the ghosts knocking
Nothing but thin air
Watching you tumble
Into black waters so deep
Into the forest
Let me breathe these trees freely
Kindling for the soul
